The movie is based on a novel by Vasant Purushottam Kale, who is a renowned Marathi writer and novelist. He has written more than 60 books, including novels, short stories, essays and biographies. He is known for his realistic and humanistic depiction of rural and urban life in Maharashtra. Some of his other famous works are Partner, Vapurza, Karmachari and Zombi.
